NRC had a super day at the Arena Eventing.

Nichola Peace

In the 70cm, Sharon Wood placed 1st individually. Our 70cm team Sharon Wood, Abby Ballard and Nichola Peace also placed 1st out of 4 teams and were the only team with 3 clear rounds, finishing 30 points clear of the 2nd placed team. They go through to the Championship at Aston Le Walls 10-12 March 2023. Tara Lyons and Sparkle also took on the 70cm course and did well but were not able to finish this time. I’m sure they’ll be back again next year!

In the 80cm, Sharon and Molly just missed out on a 2nd clear when they tipped the last plank.

In the 90cm Matthew Powers rode Noel Cochrane’s Tricky as Matt’s horse Benson is injured. Despite having not teamed up before, they jumped a super clear to place 4th.

In the 100cm Noel and Tricky jumped another clear to place 2nd overall (but got time faults for going too fast!). Noel also qualified for the Championship as the highest placed individual outside of the winning team. Mikey Winn and Jackson had an unlucky pole to finish 6th overall.

Thank you to our helpers Laura Newton, Moira Winn and Maha Mekkaoui for enabling our members to compete.

Congratulations to Harriet Coupland (HWRC) and Mikey Winn (Northwood) for placing 8th in their respective arenas in the 100cm Horse Trials Champs. Despite the plenty of nerves over the particularly challenging xc course, Harriet and Mara went double clear with a few time faults on a dressage score of 34. Mikey and Jackson scored 29.3 dressage, were also clear xc with a handful of time faults and had one fence down SJ. Commiserations to our 2 other Area 6 team members,Noel Cochrane (Northwood) and Connor Kinrade (Wellington). Noel had to retire Tricky when the horse had a slip half way round the xc course. Connor was well on his way to a thrilling clear on the xc when Murphy unexpectedly put the brakes on two fences from home. The pony was later found to foot sore due to a slight injury to his frog. Hopefully Murphy will be back on form soon.

Well done Nichola Peace and Sul who won Top Score at todays Winter Arena Trec held at Windmill Farm and organised by Ann Maisel Fabulous day blessed with good weather. Great to see other Northwood members there.
